Some Commonly Used Water Treatment Filter Media

Due to the discharge of various industrial and domestic wastewater, we have different water treatment media products to treat and purify water quality to meet different requirements and goals.

A suspended porous carrier made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with special patterns on the surface to increase the specific surface area (usually 500-900 ㎡/m ³), with a density close to water (0.96-0.98 g/cm ³), and can move freely with water flow.

Application:
Used for biochemical tanks in sewage treatment plants (such as AO, AAO processes), industrial wastewater treatment (food, pharmaceuticals, etc.), river restoration, etc.

Advantages:

No need for fixed brackets, saving energy consumption;

The biofilm has strong self-renewal ability and resistance to shock loads;

The existing activated sludge system can be upgraded.

Structure:
The center is a plastic rope or fiber bundle, wrapped around a "snowflake shaped" plastic ring or fiber thread to form a three-dimensional mesh structure.

Function:
Microbial attachment growth combines the high specific surface area of soft fillers with the mechanical strength of semi soft fillers.

Application:
Contact oxidation tanks, hydrolysis acidification tanks, biological filtration towers, etc. are particularly suitable for high concentration organic wastewater (such as slaughter, printing and dyeing wastewater).

Material:
Polyester fibers or polyethylene are woven into ropes or strips, with a rough surface that is prone to film sticking.

Advantage:

Vertical suspension installation, suitable for deep pools;

Corrosion resistant, with a lifespan of over 10 years.

Application:
Marine aquaculture water treatment, MBBR process alternatives, and enhanced treatment of artificial wetlands.

It is usually a plastic modular cube (such as PP material) with a honeycomb or corrugated board structure inside, and a porosity of>90%.

Function:
Wastewater flows through the packing layer from top to bottom and comes into contact with air to complete organic matter degradation and nitrification.

Application:
Decentralized sewage treatment in villages and towns, leachate treatment from garbage, and odor biofilters.

Type:
Hydrophilic sponge with an opening rate of ≥ 95%, with adjustable pore size (such as 10-60 PPI).

Advantages:
Capture suspended solids while cultivating anaerobic/aerobic bacteria;

Easy to clean and regenerate, suitable for small integrated equipment.

Application:
Fish and vegetable symbiotic system, rainwater filtration, MBR membrane pretreatment.

Common types:

Micro porous aerator (EPDM membrane, bubble diameter 1-3mm, oxygen utilization rate ≥ 30%);

Cyclone aerator (anti clogging, suitable for high SS wastewater);

Pipe aerator (easy to install, mostly used for industrial wastewater).

Key selection points:
According to the air volume, water depth, and sludge concentration, regular cleaning is required to prevent blockages.

Material:
Stainless steel 316L or ABS engineering plastic, with a gap width of 0.2-0.5mm.

Function:
Installed at the bottom of the filter plate, evenly distribute water/air, and prevent the loss of filter material during backwashing.

Specifications:
Commonly used for V-shaped filters and ion exchange columns, with long and short handles and a flow rate of 1-2m ³/h per unit.

Tips:

Wastewater treatment: MBBR filter meida+combined filler+cyclone aerator;

Deep filtration: Filter nozzle+filter foam;

Compact equipment: bio trickling filter media+spiral cord braided rope filler
